Aggie Talk

"A' Number

This is another name for your student number. It is often referred to by this term because all student numbers begin with the letter 'A.' You will use this number as you register for classes, make payments, look up grades, etc.

The AC

USU was originally called the Agricultural College of Utah. Some people continue to refer to the school as 'The AC'.

ACCESS (Banner)

Banner is the school's student record system. Use it to register for classes, change your mailing address, etc.

Aggie Ice Cream

USU's creamery is part of the Nutrition and Food Science Department. Here, you can purchase USU's famous ice cream and cheese as well as sandwiches.

Aggie Marketplace

A popular buffet-style eatery found in the Taggart Student Center, you can find choices from pizza to hamburgers to Mexican food.

Aggie Shuttle

A free, on-campus bus system, the Aggie Shuttle makes various stops across campus. Refer to its website for schedules and stop information, WW\"..usu.edu,parking,Routes.htm.

Big Blue

Every university has its famed mascot. USU's is Big Blue. You'll see him (a nose-ringed, blue-faced bull on two legs) at sporting events and on Aggie apparel.

CVTD

CVTD stands for the Cache Valley Transit District. It offers a free bus system that runs across the entire valley. For more information about schedules and services, see its website, www.cvtdbus.org.

GSS

The Graduate Student Senate represents the graduate students at USU. It is located in TSC 318. Learn more at www.usu.edu/usugss.

HPER

The "Hyper" is the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation building, where you can get involved with .intramural sports and find facilities, including a gymnastics room, two swimming pools, three multipurpose gymnasiums, a weight room, six racquetball courts, and 14 outdoor tennis courts.

Institute

Across from the Taggart Student Center, this red brick building is not officially affiliated with the university. It is owned by the LDS church, and many students attend religion courses here during the day as a part of their academic schedule. The Institute frequently offers free food and entertainment for everyone on campus. All courses are free for people under 30 and $20 per class for those over 30.

Logan Canyon

Logan Canyon is directly to the east of Logan-check it out during the warm months for outdoor activities like camping and hiking.

Merrill-Cazier

 Merrill-Cazier is the name of the library. Located in the heart of campus, it was renovated in 2006. Graduate students can check books out for three to four months at a time. Talk to a librarian to find out more about what the library offers or go to library website at www.library.usu.edu.

Mormon/LDS

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Because much of the student body claims at least some affiliation with the church, you're likely to hear these terms frequently and used interchangeably.

Old Main Hill

This is the large hill on the west end of campus that overlooks Cache Valley. It is also where Old Main rests, a landmark building to the campus and valley that houses the administration offices and classrooms.

ORC

ORC is the acronym for Outdoor Recreation Center. Located to the east of the football stadium, this is where you can rent outdoor equipment like canoes, snowshoes, skis, camping gear, rafts, kayaks, etc.

The Quad

Located in the heart of USU's campus, the Quad is the large grassy area located behind Old Main and surrounded by the historic buildings on campus. Students use this green space to study, play games and sports, meet friends, or relax.

Quick Stop

The Quick Stop is a convenience store located on the ground floor of the Taggart Student Center. Check out the store to learn more about its specials, such as Happy Hour, when fountain drinks are half-price.

Romney Stadium

Mostly used for Utah State football games, this stadium is located on the north end of campus atop the hill on 1000 North.

Sardine Canyon

Sardine Canyon is the canyon that connects Cache Valley to Brigham City. During autumn months, this canyon is known for its beautiful display of fall colors.

Sky Room

On the fourth floor of the Taggart Student Center, this upscale restaurant affords a beautiful view of the Wasatch mountains and the east side of campus while you eat.

SGS

SGS stands for the School of Graduate Studies. You may see this on some of the paperwork and forms you will come across during your graduate student tenure.

Spectrum

The Spectrum is the 1 O,OOO-seat arena where the famous Utah State basketball team plays. This is also where the university holds graduation ceremonies and where large concerts and events are held.

TSC

TSC stands for Taggart Student Center. Inside the TSC, there is a food court (The Hub), ATMs, Zion's Bank, a barber shop, a post office, a few restaurants, and several offices for students, including registrar's, cashier's, academic counseling, and many more.

WAC

Recently, the university joined the Western Athletic Conference, an NCAA-recognized conference that mainly includes teams/ schools in the western United States.

Wasatch/Wellsvilles

Cache Valley is surrounded by two mountain ranges. The mountain range closest to campus, and on the east side of the valley, is the Wasatch range. On the west side of the valley, about 20 miles from campus, you can see the Wellsvilles.
