Problems with the RSS Feeds
Some issues you may encounter using the above rss feeds:
- Importing the opml file into bloglines removes many of the journal titles from the opml file, instead reverting to the original generic title some of these publishers are using in their feeds, like "springerlink - journal"...
- Importing the opml file into google reader will resort them alphabetically. And there is no way to sort them otherwise.
- Some of the rss feeds from providers like ingentaconnect and informaworld have bad links. If you click an article title for example, it takes you to the ingentaconnect or informaworld homepage instead of the article's webpage. So if you want to save a post, do so in your rss reader instead of trying to bookmark it on their site.
- Some journals like Research in Science Education, Educational Technology, Research & Development, and all the Erlbaum journals are posting old articles from the 70s and 80s (and even older) to their rss feeds.
On Open Access Educational Research
Making the full text of educational research articles available only to those who pay a subscription is a controversial issue. Researchers in the medical and science communities are taking a lead on this issue. Here are some links to more readings:
- Opening Up Access to Educational Research - summary of the issue by Doug Holton
- Public Library of Science - Open Access - motivation, definition of open access
- arXiv - physics and related research archive
- PubMed Central - medical research archive
