Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences START HERE

Instructional Technology is a rapidly growing field that encompasses many different areas and professions.  This wiki page is designed to help Instructional Technology Students, Teachers, Professional Instructional Designers, and Distance Educators find online resources that showcase Instructional Technology.
 
While reading this you may wonder what is Instructional Technology?  How can I utilize Instructional Technology as a teacher, distance educator, or Professional Instructional Designer.  The following definition of Instructional Technology was presented in Doug Holton's USU's ITLS Foundations class last semester, and I thought it would be appropriate to post it here.
 
"Instructional Technology is the theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management, and evaluation of processes and resources for learning. ...The words Instructional Technology in the definition mean a discipline devoted to techniques or ways to make learning more efficient based on theory but theory in its broadest sense, not just scientific theory. ... Theory consists of concepts, constructs, principles, and propositions that serve as the body of knowledge. Practice is the application of that knowledge to solve problems. Practice can also contribute to the knowledge base through information gained from experience. ... [Design], development, utilization, management, and evaluation ... refer to both areas of the knowledge base and to functions performed by professionals in the field. ... Processes are a series of operations or activities directed towards a particular result. ... Resources are sources of support for learning, including support systems and instructional materials and environments. ... The purpose of instructional technology is to affect and effect learning (Seels & Richey, 1994, pp. 1-9)."

Association for Educational Communications and Technology.  This is an organization meant for Educators, Librarians, Armed forces, University professionals, etc.  This organization is dedicated to improving quality instruction, and is national and international spokesperson for educational and instructional technology.  The cost to join this organization is $99 for a regular membership, and $50 for a student membership.
