The Sony PSP in Education
The Sony PSP is a portable gaming console that debuted in 2005. With video and audio capabilities, it is essentially a hand-held multimedia device. The devices can be used as student personal planners. Updates to curriculum can be streamed via .pdf file to the student's PSP, complete with reminders about homework and alarms for upcoming texts. Another possibility is the PSP's ability to show a diversity of multimedia, from PowerPoint presentations to instructional videos. The PSP can also act as a storage device for student work, and a way for them to show multimedia projects to parents and other students. Teachers that are currently trying to use the PSP in education have hoped that Sony would allow for free, open-source software to be used on the device without hacking, but as of yet Sony has been careful about what they allow.
