  • Who are the main people--Yang Liu
Thomas F. Gilbert (b. 1927 - d. 1995) was usually considered to be the founder of the field of human performance technology.
Gilbert established the fundamental principles of performance improvement adopted by HPT consultants today. In his opinion, the six variables that were indispensable to improve human performance include: information, resources, incentives, knowledge, capacity, and motives.

He focused more concentration on how to apply the behavioral paradigm to the work environment and school setting. The behavioral paradigm is: Discriminative Stimulus (SD) --> Response (R) --> Reinforcing or Aversive Stimulus (S+/-).
The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) forms the organizing framework on the basis of Dr. Gilbert's work. Judged by his outstanding contribution, the ISPI awarded the Thomas F. Gilbert Distinguished Professional Achievement Award in honor of him.

Dr. Robert F. Mager is a prominent writer as well as world-famous expert in the field of training and human performance improvement.
It is the Criterion-Referenced Instruction (CRI) training methodology that is known as one of Dr. Mager's most remarkable achievements in the realm of performance improvement. CRI, which is developed by Mager and Peter Pipe, has proved particularly successful and has become the standard for excellence in training and performance improvement.

Besides, as a renowned author, Dr. Mager has written nine books with regard to the issues of training and performance improvement, and over three million copies of his books have been sold.

ISPI is the main professional organization for Human Performance. It is a very large organization with members all over the world. However local chapters are the life's blood of the organization. Each chapter gives individual members the opportunity to network with other professionals, publish in their literature and simply hone their skills.
