"The American Library Association (ALA) was founded in 1876 in Philadelphia and subsequently chartered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Its mission is “to provide leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.” Its membership is open to “any person, library, or other organization interested in library service and librarianship…upon payment of the dues provided for in the Bylaws.”  (http://www.ala.org/)

The organization promotes itself primarily through their website and the use of instructional technology concepts like blogs and wikis.  .

ALA.org is designed as an all encompassing site to find information about libraries in the U.S.  Ilovelibraries.org is the library promotion part of their website.  There are links to conferences, online stores and miscellaneous professional tools to name a few.

ALA. is a great example of a professional organization that incorporates the use of blogs and
wikis as part of their website.  By simply searching the website you can find blogs and links to information about libraries, technology and instructional technology.
