What the Degree is About
The Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences Department utilizes distance and traditional methods to deliver this comprehensive program in Instructional Design and Development. Core knowledge, best practices, current theories and research are explored.
The Master of Learning Technologies & Instructional Design degree program is a 36 semester hour program of course work with a culminating experience: a creative project or an internship. MLTID students are admitted into a cohort each Fall semester of each year. There is 1-credit required orientation in August on the Logan campus for all ITLS students.
The anticipated timeline for finishing the degree requirements is 2 years or 6 semesters. To complete the required coursework in 2 years, students must take the requisite classes when offered. However, students can take up to 6 years to complete the degree. Students typically complete their culminating experience during the spring semester of the second academic year.
Upon acceptance to the program, students are assigned an advisor who can be their guide/mentor through the master’s program. The advisor serves as a resource for information and a liaison between the students and the university. Near the end of the first year, students choose a graduate chairperson from the department faculty. The chairperson can serve as advisor and also mentors each student through their culminating experience and their portfolio.
