About Me
I was born and raised in the Salt Lake Area, mostly in West Jordan. Graduated from West Jordan High in 1984 and spent the next 17 years being a mom and raising my family.
During those "family" years I worked many different jobs both full and part time. I worked in retail several times doing everything from cashiering to Layaway and finally up to Assistant Manager. I loved working retail, but hated the hours (especially the holidays, nights and weekends). I spent some time working at my children's elementary, and then as an EdNet Facilitator at Bingham High. Bingham was a remote site, which meant that I was, in effect, the teacher in the classroom. I handled attendance, classroom management, passing out, collecting, and grading assignments. About the only thing I didn't do was prepare and deliver lesson plans. This was the experience that helped me decide what I wanted to be when I grew up.
So I summoned up every ounce of courage I could, and went to my first day of college in August of 2002 at the age of 35. I had always been afraid of college or any higher education because I didn't think I was smart enough to be successful in college. (I mean, heck, I had barely managed to graduate from high school.) Four years later, I completed a five year program and graduated Suma Cum Laude from Weber State University with a BA in Business Education with a Marketing minor. I learned a lot about myself in those 4 years and built a lot of self confidence.
My timing was impeccable as Utah was going through a severe teacher shortage that year and I was quickly hired at Kaysville Jr. High. When I first started college I told people that I didn't want to teach in a junior high school because I "didn't want to take a bath in the hormone pool." I discovered that I really enjoy working with those pre-teen and young teenage students more than I had expected. I'm just starting my third year at Kaysville. I love the kids and faculty and plan to stay there for some time.
