About Me

Hello...I am Laura Watkins from Arizona via Cache Valley  via Arizona.  It's a complicated story.  Suffice it to say I teach Mathematics at Glendale Community College in Glendale, AZ but my permanent residence is in Utah.  I am currently on sabbatical and taking courses in Instructional Technology.  My family (husband and 3 of my 4 kids) live in Smithfield, UT (and so do I currently--YEAH!).  My oldest child (24 years old) lives in Scottsdale, AZ working for the city and working on a degree from NAU.

I completed my B.S. in Math in 1995 with minors in Physics and Computer Science, my M.S. in Mathematics in 1998 and my Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2005.  Now I'm here to learn about Instructional Technology...my youngest daughter says I'm just collecting degrees.  Not really...I just LOVE TO LEARN.  I think by now I have the math down pat  ;-D    I want to learn more about instruction and the effective use of technology to help me help my students.   By the way, I LOVE MATH!!

My hobbies include:  gardening, photography (i'm new at this--my kids are teaching me), scuba diving (I hope to dive the barrier reef someday), motorcycle riding (actually my husbands hobby--but I like to go along), camping, fishing and traveling in general.

2008 - 2009 Project ACCCESS Networking Assistant.

Currently, Project ACCCESS is the sole venture of AMATYC and its goal is to promote professional development of new fulltime faculty at two-year colleges.  I am serving as a networking assistant for the current cohort.  This involves locating colleagues active in AMATYC who live in their local area.  Also, locate local conferences for the fellows to attend.
