Instructional Design II Class

Hi, since most all of you are continuing from the foundations classes to the 2nd instructional design class, we'll re-use the foundations2008 group page for news & announcements & blogs.  If you aren't enrolling in the 2nd instructional design class, there should be a link to unsubscribe at the bottom of this note, or else you can visit the foundations 2008 page, click on "My membership" and then "leave this group" if you wish.

This spring, MS & MED students will be combined online.  We'll also be using Moodle, a learning managment system similar to Blackboard, yet it is free.

Here is a copy of the syllabus.

MS students will still meet this Thursday at 1:30pm in room 282 where I'll introduce the course.  So we won't actually start our coursework until the 2nd week of class.  But if you want to get started, here are the steps to get enrolled in our Moodle class.
  1. You can use your same full name and password to access our moodle site as you use to access our foundations website.  However, all passwords were reset over the break, so first you need to set a new password by visiting this page and following the instructions: http://itls.usu.edu/user/password
  2. At this point if you aren't already a member of the foundations 2008 group, click the "join" link on that page.
  3. Now you should be able to also login to our moodle site here: http://itls.usu.edu/moodle  Use your full name as the username (the same full name used on this drupal site).
  4. You'll see our class listed there.  Click on the link to the class and enroll in it using the special key: 1618
  5. Once inside, you'll scroll down to see the weekly activities and readings.
  6. We have one reading for the 2nd week.  The article Engineering Educational Designers.  By Wednesday January 14th you can post your thoughts on that article to the 2nd week's discussion forum in our moodle class.  Or if you want to respond to other people's comments, you have until Friday the 16th.
Email me if you have any questions or run into any issues.  Yan Ma will be serving as the teaching assistant this semester, too.  She took this class last year.  You can review last year's class and student moodle projects if you wish.  The big changes this year are that our design projects will fall under a theme of technology education and engineering education, and that most of you will be working in teams rather than individually, although the choice is still yours.

Chat Session Moving to Mondays at 7pm

Many of the MS students have a class on Wednesday nights, so I'm moving the optional Wimba chat session to Mondays at 7pm if that is okay.

Again, it is not required.  Think of it as virtual office hours for me, when you can drop by and ask a question if you wish.  Of course you are free to ask questions in our general class discussion forum on moodle anytime, or email me directly.
