Java
This is a group for those in the 5275 or 6275 Java multimedia development course, or those interested in developing software using the Java platform.
See the course Syllabus and the Java Handbook, where I'll be posting class notes, links, and videos.
Group News & Discussion:
Android Applications
Thomas Caswell posted a list of best android apps that work on the Google phone. Some are pretty amazing, and it's amazing that they are all developed in Java. See for example this video demo of ShopSavvy (formerly GoCart), in which you can scan a barcode with your phone, and the application looks up prices at other nearby stores and online for comparison.
Syllabus reposted
I re-entered the updated syllabus, in particular the readings for this week and next.
I think you'll especially find the "getting started with netbeans ide tutorial" and "using the java editor" video helpful.
- Swing Documentation, in particular:
- Netbeans Documentation, in particular:
- Getting Started With the NetBeans IDE Tutorial
- Using the Java Editor (code completion, has a video)
- Designing a Swing GUI in Netbeans (optional)
- Swing Application Framework
Lost Some Wiki Pages
(this is being posted to multiple groups) Some wiki pages added yesterday (between 2:30am and 3pm) have disappeared or reverted to older versions, including the most up to date version of the syllabus for the java class. We're working on finding out what happened. I think it only affected a few people, you'll probably have to repost your work because the backups are missing the content, too. I'll repost the java syllabus in the next couple of days, but here is the java info:

Use bft.usu.edu for file attachments
Apparently, USU recently got more strict about sending file attachments in email, so you have to use this site if you want to send certain kinds of files (like zip files or large files) to others: http://bft.usu.edu/
Some pages have new URLs
I recently combined the "wiki" and "book" pages types into one "wiki book" type, and as part of the clean up, the URLs of some pages have changed:
The Ed Tech Knowledge Base is still here:
http://itls.usu.edu/wiki/foundations-2008/knowledge-base
But the sub-chapters have new URLs, such as the organizations & conferences page the MED students are working on this week in the foundations course:
