Anchored instruction

Anchored Instruction

Anchored instruction is similar to case-based and problem-solving learning.  See this PDF for a full presentation which is found at:

* Learning is based, or anchored, on a realistic problem in an discipline or career such as:  saving or starting a small business,       caring for a wounded animal then releasing it back into its natural habitat,  Building or repairing a bridge or road, etc.

* The problem is based in a story and presented, preferably in video, to students. Videos are preferred so students can replay the video as often as necessary to retrieve the data necessary to solving the problem.

* Stories are embedded; that is, they contain all the data required to solve the problem.  The scenarios are also "seeded"--i.e. contain key facts--the students need for solving.

Anchored instruction

Anchored instruction is to help students become more actively engaged in their learning. The instructor is to pose a complex, realistic problems that the students can use technology to solve. The students take ownership in this anchored instruction because they can relate to the problem. Students are to play an uthetic role to the problem.Click here to read more »
