Tom's Research Paper: Things that I'm interested in researching and writing about

There are many really cool things to write a research paper in the educational technology field.  I think that I have narrowed down my list a bit, but I'd love to hear people's feedback on these.  I've decided to put my focus on how these technology tools improve teacher professional development.
 
  • Podcasting as a delivery tool in Professional Development trainings (this could be really good, because it fits with the project that I'm doing for 6350)
  • Web 2.0 technologies improving teaching (I love Web 2.0 apps)

Open Ed Conference

I'm not part of the Facebook generation.  My niece is, though, and I've even started to hear cool stories about people meeting significant others and reconnecting with old friends, etc.  My daughter would spend hours on YouTube if I didn't make her put it down and do something else.  She even posted a cheesy video that actually got tons of hits.  One man said his wife had laughed for the first time since the death of her father.  I was floored.  Today in Relief Society the RS president , who has to be in her sixties at least, said she had tried to bring a&nbsClick here to read more »

My Impressions on "What Web 2.0 can Teach the Open Education Movement"

When I entered the room for "Web 2.0" they were still finishing the previous session on the Peer-to-Peer University.  Although it sounds like an interesting model for group projects, I don't think p2p universities work well where a strong subject matter expert is required.  They suggested initially starting the course with professors from established universities.  Once beginning students have trained, they become the new teachers for the next class.  While I think this sounds like a nice idea, I still don't understand how it's sustainable based on anything oClick here to read more »
