Week 2: Definitions of Learning and Technology

 This week, through reading articles on wikipedia and watching the video slide presentations, the definitions of learning and technology stood out to me. I evaluated my current understanding of these terms. I tried to critically appraise the articles I read about these terms as well. Here are my thoughts:

Definitions regarding INST / Ed Tech.

I will start by speaking about something I heard Doug say at the beginning of class on the 10th.  He made comments about using technology as an aide for different types of presentations.  Some examples he gave included using PowerPoint to supplement his teaching, as well as his interview for his gig at USU.  He said, when he uses these types of things, he tends to rush through them.  That, to me, speaks volumes.  The same thing holds true for most areas of technology and education, or technology as a whole.

Definitions

I thought that I had a pretty firm grasp on what technology was. Little did I know. It wasn't until recently that my eyes where opened to a more broad perspective of what technology is. Even though my eyes are now open, I am not  sure if I know the definition of technology.
 
In my research I found several defintions that where lengthy and drawn out. I like the shorter, more clear  definitions.Click here to read more »

Definitions: Instructional Technology (Tom J)

I chose to direct todays comments about the definition of Instructional Technology.
 
I like ACET's definition of Instructional Technology on the knowledge-base WIKI.  I felt that it was very encompassing of field and broad enough for people specializing in certain aspects of IT to be included as instructional technologists. 
 
I kind of feel like I never completely understood, (and maybe still dont) the true definition of Instructional Technology.  I used to thClick here to read more »

Becky's definitions

Before starting out on the adventure of looking up the definitions for this assignment, I thought about my preconceived notions of what each term meant. My prior knowledge and experiences with learning and instruction basically corresponded with the definitions I found in Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary and others found on the internet. However, my preconceived concept of technology was barely in the ball park.
