Today Part of our class of Foundation and professor Brian Belland had the privilege to visit the company LetterPress Software, Inc. located within the facilities of USU Innovation Campus. We met one of the president of the company who gave us a tour inside of the facility. We also met Mr. Mike Petersen the Senior Vice president, writers, Instructional designers, programmers, etc. Then we participated in a presentation about the company fundamentals. What they do is to make instructional design using software-base instruction. The instructions followed Gagne's 9 events of instruction and David Merill's Component Display Theory: Name, Description and Visuals. They also see learning as a change in behavior which is acquired through experience. We were presented some of the softwares, such as Instructions for diabetes prevention, Instruction for food management, etc. The company has been recognized with different awards for the quality of their instructional softwares and they have developed different projects for company such as, Motorola, US department of Agriculture, US Air Force, Xerox, etc. They hire professionals and students to work in their different projects and they see internships as a real professional development.
