OpenEducation.net
The first time I had ever heard of open education was in class two weeks ago. Since then I have read quite a bit on this topic to help further my understanding of the concept. Like many, I suspect, I had a hard time breaking away from my traditional way of thinking. Questions of sustainability were first to come to mind. But, it didn’t stop there. Could we ever offer degrees from major universities? Who would make sure that students are learning what is needed? Who would grade papers? Would this mean education changes to a compete student self-paced learning environment – you get out what you put into it? If so – what would that mean for grades K-12? Would we implement self-paced learning? How would we make sure that all children are given the guidance and education they need? The more I read the more questions I came up with. Some of these questions I have received answers to. While I may not completely understand the concept – I at least recognize the potential. Other questions still go unanswered.
My quest for more answers led me to a great website: www.openeducation.net. I liked this website because it gave me some answers to my questions. It set up some examples of how students would be able to learn in these environments. And it also opened up more questions for me that I will continue to explore.
It seems that every week in this class I not only learn something new but I learn about things that have never entered my world of thought. The more I learn the more questions I find that I have. I hope that the rest of this degree proves to be much the same.
