NROC's value in collaboration
The second session I attended complimented the first quite well. It focused more on the content itself and about how not all open materials are valuable and collaboration can lead to more valuable content. This is specifically what the National Repository of Online Courses (NROC) addresses – how to utilize collaboration to make content stronger. Some of the ideas presented for better material included:
- Design for continuous change
- Design multiple pathways
- Design ecosystems of collaborators
- Design learning networks
Once again, this ties into my interest of open education. When open content is created for education it needs to be purposeful, meaningful, and valuable. These are quite important points for me to retain if I do work in open education. Content for content’s sake is not necessarily useful. Quality is key, and once again, the users of these materials are the most important focus.
