Career and Educational Goals

I have many goals for my career, and furthering my education is the surest way to make sure that I can meet what I want to do.

It has been 15 years since receiving my BA in Business Education. Since I teach technology, a constantly changing field, learning has been a constant part of my life, but formal education has been very limited. I know that I can learn the subject matter of anything I'm asked to teach, but I want to be highly qualified as an instructor and not just adequate at learning and imparting knowledge. That is my most important career goal: to become a master educator who can impart knowledge not just adequately but superbly. I count on my studies over the next two years to help me learn better instructional skills so I can better benefit my students, school, and district.

Another important goal is to expand the grade levels that I teach. I love teaching junior high right now and do not see moving on to teaching full-time for other levels in the near future, but my experiences teaching college in Montana were extremely positive. I love variety in my work, and teaching college allowed me a depth of understanding of my subject matter that I have not been able to equal since. While I do not intend to immediately move forward with that career move (I love my job too much), I would like to have the option of teaching summers or as adjunct or distance educator for a local college or university. I have found that the courses I taught at the college level have made me more effective in the junior high and high school classrooms as well. Furthering my education will allow me that opportunity.

I'm so excited to begin this program and to learn how to become better equipped for my future as an educator. Let the games begin!
