Open textbooks

Being a student there would be nothing better than having my textbooks cost less. I mean, let's face it, textbooks are really expensive, and I'm paying tuition on top if it. Most students I know would like to see this happen, and the way that was proposed in session 3 was to make it available online. Connextions specifically is the organization that would make it happen. By breaking courseware down to maintainable modules, their system would stay up to date and flexible. But of course money would still be involved, but to a lesser extent. The content would be absolutely free, just extra support and tools would cost something.

Now of course anything online has the issue of being online. Connectivity and availability are always an issue, since being connected to the web is never free. The speakers directly addressed college students, which cuts the issue down a bit, but still could be a problem since not everyone has access to a computer. Still I'd certainly like to see this come to pass.
