Using cell phones in the foreign language classroom?

I thought this looked like an appropriate topic for me because I am trying to implement this idea in my classroom.  I teach at two schools and my advanced classes are very excited to try it.  One student has asked me every day for the last two and a half weeks when he should bring his cell phone.   I want to make sure the first experience is a great one, so I have waited.   I have only approved it with the principal at one school (cell phones are a no-no from the beginning of school until it is over) but I am sure it will be approved at both schools if I can prove its relevance to my curriculum.  I think the possibilities are limitless and it creates real world applications that are hard to create in a classroom setting.  I hope there is enough research out there to support a research paper.  After our class (3610) today, I am a little nervous about the quantity and quality of research available.  I guess I'll see what I can find.

Interesting!

Hi Harold,

I like your interesting ideas. What language are you teaching? I'm also used to be a second language teacher. I know a site for teachers of English as a second language(http://iteslj.org/). Maybe it can more or less help you. Good luck ! ^_^

Thanks for the comments

Yan, I teach German in the Junior High setting.  I have 6 pretty full classes in 3 levels.  Our beginners are pretty slow speakers, but the upper level students could certainly communicate on their phones.
Thanks for the website.
Harold
(sorry I'm so slow at responding)
