Goals, aspirations, and all that jazz.
Hello everyone,
Our assignment is to describve our goals for this class and for our degree. Wow - that is not a small task. I feel, in order for this to be effective, people should know about me, personally, first. That makes sense. In order to more fully appreciate why people feel a certain way, I believe it is important to attempt to gain as much knowledge about that person as you can. What I am not going to do here is narrate my life story, but what I will do is give you a very, very brief synopsis.
So - here is your snapshot of Edward Bennett, MEd Student. I am 33 years old (as of 31 August 2008), I am married to Sarah, and have one son, Gavin - who will be 4 years old on 03 November 2008. I am the first person from my maternal lineage to complete a bachelor's degree (with the exception of one off-shoot family who moved away from the rest of us). My undergraduate major is Economics and I have minors in Political Science and Psychology, although Westminster College of Salt Lake City, the school from which I graduated, will not list my Political Science minor on my transcript. I was studying International Business before realizing I hate capitalism - the reason I switched majors. I have been working in Acadamia, Politics, and the Business world for the entirety of my adult life and an currently employed at the Idaho Youth Ranch, with Sarah, as House Parents, located in Rupert Idaho. I am a humanist, through and through, and feel the purpose of education should be to create better people and give them the tools to reach a state of self-actualization.
My major goals for this course include learning just what the heck we are doing here. I see Foundations as the primary building block for our program. If we can get to know one another better and agree to work smart, as a team, then we will gain a greater benefit from this experience. I very much enjoyed and appreciated what we did during the orientation, and I hope to build on the relationships I made then.
For the program as a whole, honestly, I want the letters at the end of my name. When people ask me what I do, or what I am, I am want them to know I am an educator. Education is all around us, and if we allow ourselves to be the teachers of everyone with whom we come in contact, then we will leave the world a better place than when we entered it. MEd makes sense to me. Ed Tech is just a perk. ;)
I hope this helps spread some light onto me and who I am. If you have any questions, comments, or want to contact me for any other reason, please do not hesitate to do so.
