Hill AFB
We had the opportunity to go to Southwest Research Institute and Hill Air Force Base. These are the highlights of the trip for me:
- Virtual simulations are going to become more popular as technology increases. The cost/time savings is there, the technology is almost there. It will become more popular in the future (at least in my humble opinion).
- No one uses the Dick and Carrey model exactly. Hill had a PADDIE system, Southwest said to "know the basics." It seems like everyone has their custom model based on Dick and Carrey.
- The Air Force is really segmented as far as training is concerned. I'm really confused as to the difference of the civilian division and the military division.
- Training development requires evaluation, needs assesment, and creativity to work correctly.
- Training developers get to learn many different knowledge sets. This makes me happy since I want to know everything about everything.
These are my thoughts as far as ITLS goes. Other thoughts I had dealt with the great generosity of the Hill personnel. It was a very interesting trip and well worth the time/effort.
